Narrative essays have a different structure to the non-narrative type. Narrative essays typically begin with an introduction. This sets the stage (narrated material) for the main body. Subsequent sections of the narrative essay typically contain descriptive statements, which provide a summary of what’s presented in the essay (sometimes with a personal or character view of the information being discussed). One might find these types of essays to be very similar to the personal narrative style, where the writer employs his/her own voice to describe the events or experiences.

The most popular argument in thesis statements is the argument from authority. The argument is based on scientific research, literary pieces, and other information to support or challenge the claim. Although a thesis could be convincing and persuasive but it is not worthy of being classified as a thesis when it lacks substantial proof (or if the evidence is not interesting to the reader). In many instances however, the existence of evidence supporting a claim is such a clear and indisputable truth that even the most reluctant or cautious reader can see the truth. To prove this, the thesis should be supported by a number of independent or additional arguments (or by statements of fact and/or reasoning in the case of literary thesis).

The introduction to an essay is usually an overview of what’s ahead. It outlines the expectation that guides the essay writing process. It begins with a summary of what the essay has to provide and how it is related to the topic(s). The introduction is usually silent in the majority of cases. It also permits time to gather all the required details and to formulate the theme(s) that will be explored throughout the the work.

Most essays contain at least one preface, that generally outlines the scope of the essay’s research and its background. Apart from the main premise(s) expressed in the introduction and conclusion, the format of the essay is typically reserved for the conclusion. This list shows that there are four kinds of essays. Each has pros and cons. It’s up to each individual to choose which essay they will use. One thing is for certain, however: if you’re having difficulty writing a particular type of essay, you’ll struggle to write other types.
